How does a leading retail company increase the effectiveness of their training programs, all the while making them more engaging and learner-centric?
eLearning is all the rage now. From traditional, four-walled training rooms to online portals and digital certifications, there’s been a huge shift in the way organizations educate and empower their workforce.
We, at Radixweb, were one of the first pioneers to anticipate the potential of education software development. Using cutting-edge technologies and modern development approaches, we have been helping global organizations digitalize and streamline their learning and education initiatives.
In this tech study, we’re going to talk about an eLearning platform we recently built that offers an immersive learning experience equipped with cutting-edge features like interactive assessments, gamification elements, and AI-driven content suggestions.
The client is a UK-based auto retail company that rapidly expanded to over 150 stores around the continent. They realized that it’s time to take an active role in training management and bring multiple functionalities under one roof – mLearning translations, Flash to HTML conversion, video-based modules, and LMS solutions.
The big plus was our ability to create an all-inclusive education software system and roll out a wide variety of learning materials within the desired timeframe and at a cost that works. The solution eventually empowered their employees to improve their performance by a whooping 40%.
So, here’s how we helped their workforce leverage continuous learning opportunities and foster professional growth, which ultimately led us to meet the client’s requirements.
A Nugget of Insight: According to research, the education technology market is going to generate $340 billion by the end of 2027, with a CAGR of 15.52% during the forecasted period. Moreover, the corporate EdTech industry will be worth $44.6 billion by 2028.

The goal for our esteemed client was straightforward but quite challenging – how to optimize their multi-week training and onboarding curriculum led by instructors into a more bespoke and engaging learning environment for three critical operational units (customer success, business development, and sales)?
Struggling with instructor burnouts, high employee turnover, and inconsistency issues, the client was in a dire need to create a customized eLearning platform and empower their staff from day one.
So, their number one objective of this auto retail company was to revise, redesign, and update their 10-weeks training program for new recruits to a 6-week self-paced one. The essential features we were targeting were social interactions, personalized learning journeys, robust content repositories, and exceptional user experience.
Another major challenge for us was session management for a specific set of users through a personalized module. We also needed to integrate real-time updates, such as course completion, instant feedback, social posts, etc.
All in one, the EdTech project objectives were:
The first task was to create a comprehensive training program consisting of 15 eLearning modules designed for new employees.
We started with some existing training materials, including some video courses and PowerPoint presentations. However, the project scope evolved over time, and we found ourselves tasked with producing a total of 24 modules, each with a duration ranging from 20 to 30 minutes.
To accomplish this, we assembled a team of six experts, consisting of three courseware developers and three instructional designers, in addition to a dedicated project manager.
After careful consideration, we opted to utilize iSpring Suite as our authoring tool for its interactive course development elements.
The 24 eLearning modules were neatly organized into three learning paths as follows:
In addition to this, to encourage active participation, we incorporated simple click-and-reveal interactions. Furthermore, Paths 2 and 3 incorporated “watch and learn” simulations to enhance the learning experience.

Since educational software demands a specific set of tools and technologies tailored to the distinct requirements of the education industry. That's why we possess a comprehensive toolkit that empowers us to craft inventive and impactful educational software solutions:
Moodle Implementation: The primary technology we utilized was Moodle, an open-source and highly customizable platform, to manage and deliver tailored training content to meet the client’s specific needs.
Integration: Seamless integration with the company's existing systems, such as HR databases and performance evaluation tools.
iSpring: This suite of eLearning tools allowed us to create interactive eLearning modules with ease. By using features like PPT to SCORM conversion, interactive role-plays, and scenario-based simulations, we increased the engagement levels of the training content.
Unity3D provided the backbone for creating immersive VR and AR experiences. For example, our team developed virtual showrooms where sales staff could practice their skills by engaging with virtual customers.
We integrated Tableau to visualize training data on a customized dashboard. The company can now track learner progress, identify areas where they struggled, and make data-driven decisions to restructure their training programs.
To incorporate gamification elements, we used HTML5, Phaser, and JavaScript to develop games and interactive quizzes that rewarded learners for completing modules and achieving milestones.
Badges, leaderboards, and competitions added a competitive element to training, which in turn motivates employees to actively participate and excel in their learning journeys.
Creating an eLearning system is a narrow niche that comes with its own set of challenges. Here are some of the most prevalent issues we faced and the implemented strategies to confront them head-on:
Challenge: It’s not an easy feat to keep diverse sets of learners engaged, especially when the subject matter does not automatically appeal to them or is not easy to crack.
Strategy: We put great focus on designing simple and easy-to-use interfaces with attractive layouts. Moreover, we incorporated robust gamification elements, such as rewards, badges, and achievement feats.
Challenge: Accessibility was the most critical part of the project as we have to make sure everyone can access the software without any trouble, including those with disabilities and impairments.
Strategy: By adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), we follow the best practices for accessibility during our software design, leading to a 50% increase in learner accessibility. Regular testing helps us iron out any issues and ensures that our software caters to all users effectively.
Challenge: Privacy and security of the eLearning software system was of high importance as it would deal with vast amounts of sensitive data of learners.
Strategy: We develop these systems with high-end security measures like encrypting data, minimizing data collection and storage, and maintaining transparency with users about how their data is utilized.
Challenge: Apart from the development of the platform, there were many other things to take care of, such as maintaining the system, solving technical issues, scaling the software during traffic, etc.
Strategy: We make our software as lightweight as possible to ensure it runs smoothly at any Internet speed on a number of devices. As a result, our clients could reduce 70% of their manual administrative tasks and invest that time in strategic planning.
Another hurdle we faced was the raw quality of the input materials, which required extensive research and continuous communication between our team and the subject matter experts from the client's side.
Insufficient image resolution in the screenshots used for simulations posed an additional issue. Since our team lacked access to the tool, we had to regularly request higher-quality images and spend considerable time waiting for screenshots and videos to arrive.
