Driving Tangible Business Impact Through Multiple Agile Development Projects

The Radixweb team kickstarted end-to-end Agile implementation to optimize project management for a renowned printing tech company

Mikkel Hagen

Hello, I am Mikkel, CTO of a Denmark-based tech firm. We were looking for a reliable development partner to help us with Agile project management and implementation. Radixweb fitted perfectly into the criteria as we got a higher throughput with the capacity to handle multiple projects at the same time. They backed us up when we struggled to address our technical challenges.

Highlights

“Our relationship keeps growing. We got a team of very professional and friendly developers.”

“I don't see Radixweb taking shortcuts anywhere. They stick to plans, do everything as expected, and document it well.”

They are up to the mark, and we have been executing small and large projects with them that have been equally efficient.

An Agile Engagement

Radixweb has always been a pioneer of the Agile project management methodology. Agile values, for our developers, are the backbone of software development, which help us design, build, test, and deliver a digital product most efficiently and cost-effectively. This is why Mikkel, the CTO of the organization, picked Radixweb as their Agile development service provider.

Our team of Agile experts worked fully integrated with the client's in-house developers, optimizing their projects and solving complex project management challenges. We helped them identify and fix a range of bottlenecks to keep up with the rising market demands and generate high-quality products at a steady pace.

Here's how the conversation went:

Please tell us about your company and your position there.

I'm the CTO of a printing tech company based in Denmark. We provide bespoke software to varied industries and businesses. About 80% of our solutions are out of the box, and 20% are highly customized according to client needs.

For what tech challenges did you hire Radixweb?

We had a small team of developers with limited resources and tech expertise compared to the growing number of our clients and development projects. As a result, we needed a competent software partner who could back us up with Agile project management and implementation. Radixweb seemed to be a perfect fit for our requirements, and so we started working with them. The main goal was to get a higher throughput so that we could execute multiple projects at the same time. And quite apparently, they have helped us achieve that goal pretty well.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Radixweb came to the rescue by implementing Agile project management and involvement. They took over some of the communication with end clients, which has helped a lot. They have also implemented new technologies that make the end product more efficient. The goal for the year, in terms of collaborating with Radixweb, was to have smoother transitions during the selling of sales and in the execution of projects.

And we did that successfully by implementing some new methodologies in project management. We began this transition in September 2016 and completed it within just a couple of months. We're now executing the projects in a more Agile fashion, and on our side, we're spending less on time management. I am not sure how they do things on their side, but for me, it has become way easier to manage projects. Also, the software solutions we're providing are becoming more and more resilient in nature.

In terms of work quality or productivity, did the engagement have a positive impact on your business?

I don't have any hard numbers, just more of a feeling. When my golf handicap goes down, that means that my productivity goes up. RadixWeb is very easy to manage, and they continue to perform well. I don't have any idea how they perform with other clients, but it's outstanding for me, and over the last year, it has become easier to execute projects.

Most importantly, I don't have to spend as much time staying on top of everything because I'm confident they are going to take care of things. I don't think there have been any drastic changes since the last time I reviewed RadixWeb, except for the speed and ease of mind that I feel about executing projects with them.

They approach projects with the right questions, and they’re not afraid to say ‘no’ to a project if they feel they cannot meet your expectations. They are helpful, insightful, and trustworthy.

How would you say Radixweb performed from a project management standpoint?

We communicate with their multi-disciplinary teams at least once a week. For each project, there are between 5 to 10 team members, with a 50/50 ratio of juniors and seniors, but we don't see a big split between the two. They're all quite capable of closing that gap between knowledge and youth if that makes sense. To be honest, it depends on the nature of the project. Initially, we were communicating with seniors or project managers, but when it comes down to implementing phases, it's a mix of juniors and seniors where the distinction is based on project management skills and execution.

Sometimes our clients have certain IT systems that we have to integrate with other systems. For that, we need somebody to be present locally. Usually, this would mean myself as I would find myself giving instructions to juniors and seniors at Radixweb. I only know if they're junior or senior because I know them; otherwise, I wouldn't notice a difference. The team leaders have been pretty helpful and responsive as well.

Is there any room for improvement for Radixweb?

There's not much Radixweb can improve on, though there should always be something. Maybe if we double our size, then we'll have other challenges. I'm not sure if that will be the case from their end or with our organization. They are up to the mark, and we have been executing small and large projects with them that have been equally efficient. They don't bail on difficult projects and always stick to them while standing up for both our client and us.

Final Words of the Company

A lot of the time, we're actually exceeding our expectations, and we're finishing before our deadlines, which gives us more time to fine-tune the solution and hand it over to the client in a good fashion. The solution we got is better than what I would get if I tried to source anything in Denmark, and I wouldn't expect the Danish product to be better. I could hope to have something that was equally good. On the service value we receive from Radixweb, it's a solid 5.

Radixweb figured out a state-of-the-art Agile approach and strategies that required, evaluated the existing state of their infrastructure, and formulated a flexible and scalable methodology. With every need identified, we quickly assembled a team of the best engineers for the job, mapped out the technical solutions for their projects and clients, and came up with blue-sky solutions for the future.
