A Game-Changing Digital Tool to Modernize and Streamline Negotiation Strategy

Upgrading traditional negotiation planning with a comprehensive, interactive web app that offers practical learning and development capabilities for negotiators at every level.

Hi, I am Iain, Director of Operations of a UK-based company specializing in training and consultation for strategic procurement and negotiation. We reached out to Radixweb because they had the skills we needed to replace our paper-based negotiation workflow with a digitized process. The end result is a high-functioning web-based tool that’s simple to use but powerful enough to handle everything from small negotiations to complex team strategies.

Highlights

"Developers stayed connected and worked side by side with us. It felt like a true extension of our in-house team."

“We hardly had to follow up for an update as they were proactively tracking all deadlines and diligently ensured that tasks were completed on schedule.”

The developers we were searching for had to have specific expertise and a good understanding of our goals. Radixweb happened to have those exact criteria we needed.

A Solution-Focused Approach

When Iain and his team decided that they have to move the manual negotiation activities of their existing site into an online environment, they knew it was time for a big change. It was hard to manage everything on paper, and it just wasn’t practical for their growing customer base. It led them to come up with the idea for a web application.

That’s what we started working on - a user-friendly, secure, and reliable tool, designed to help users plan negotiations at any level, a simple one-on-one to a big team negotiation. In the end, the tool made a world of difference. It simplified their process, boosted productivity, reduced human errors, and gave their customers a better way to manage their negotiation strategies online.

The focus is always on creating a usable solution that we are happy with rather than ticking boxes to say they have done what was in the brief/spec.

An Excerpt of the Conversation

Tell us about your business and your position there.

We enable strategic procurement in organizations worldwide with a suite of SaaS and digital platforms, tools, and processes. We provide interactive training in our virtual learning environment as well as eLearning and personal coaching.

I’m the Director of Operations.

What were your goals for hiring Radixweb?

We hired Radixweb to help us replace our on-paper strategies of negotiation with a completely new web app for our customers. The manual ways of doing things were not working anymore. Too slow, too messy, and not practical for how we work now. The main challenge was to replace the unseen “human thinking” and make it visible to the user through stored intelligence.

How did you select Radixweb and what were the deciding factors?

Through online search. G2 was one of the platforms we used to look for potential partners and were pretty impressed with Radixweb’s portfolio and reviews. This was never supposed to be a transactional relationship. The developers we were searching for had to have specific expertise and a good understanding of our goals. Radixweb happened to have those exact criteria we needed.

Describe the scope of work in detail including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

We first outlined the contract and set the required terms and timelines of the project. Then they began to understand exactly how we were using the paper-based system and what we needed in a digital version. The project delivery manager and the internal functional consultant defined the final project scope considering our budget, business-critical functionalities, delivery timeline, and functional modifications. The core suggestion came in the design phase. Very interestingly, the mockup and NFPs were created and presented to us in just 2-3 days.

One of their biggest efforts was making the tool stable and secure. We decided to use .NET Core, Entity Framework Core, Redis Cache, Angular, and Microsoft SQL Server. Since the system had to scale, the team agreed to provide tech support after deployment on updating code logic or just handling errors, if any.

What problems has Radixweb solved and how is that benefiting you?

The web application we built precisely replaced the existing negotiation flow. They built it with clear governance capability and a straightforward pathway. Users can create, share, and generate comprehensive documents that outline their negotiation strategy. It uses the governance structure provided by the project management base functionality module.

Our team and the end users could easily get the required information on demand i.e. during maintenance, the system was entirely built on the client side so that all the data would load on demand. Since you asked me to share a measurable outcome, let me say that it reduced human errors by 90%, all because we don’t have to add and analyze information manually. The end-to-end process has been neatly optimized.

Let them contribute to your project. You'll be surprised how far they can go to keep their promise.

Can you tell us about the team composition and project management style?

So, we initially had a talk with the AVP when we were first introduced to Radixweb. He then introduced us to the project manager, and the rest of the team including two senior developers and a QA. Everyone was phenomenal in their job. We hardly had to follow up for an update as they were proactively tracking all deadlines and diligently ensuring that tasks were completed on schedule. We communicated regularly on video calls and minimal changes were made to the set deliverables.

What do you like best about Radixweb?

It has to be regular communication and teamwork. The developers act and feel part of our in-house team. I would not say there were never any issues because that’s unrealistic. But what mattered to us was how they made sure they didn’t recur.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Radixweb could have done differently?

We had a bit of a problem with the time difference window to get ad hoc meetings arranged. It was expected though with outsourcing. Both sides adopted the right perspective when things didn’t work as expected.

Any advice for potential customers?

Try finding an operating workflow for implementing releases. Take your time to understand what works for them and what does not. They’re a professional team so they’ll handle the rest. Be organized in your planning. Let them contribute to your project. You'll be surprised how far they can go to keep their promise.
